2022 CULTURAL DAY EVENT
Cultural day celebration comes up once in a session. It is usually thrilling and fun filled. It is an event that gives the pupils/students the opportunity to showcase the cultural heritage of our Father land; Nigeria.
This year’s cultural day celebration which was held on Friday 27th May, 2022, was unique, as the school decided to embrace foreign culture. The Management of SHOMS International College used the opportunity to help the pupils/students create love for other culture different from theirs. The cultures celebrated in this year’s cultural day celebration are: Britain, Ghana, India, South-Africa and Spain.
The programme started with a welcome address by the proprietress of SHOMS INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE in person of Mrs. Helen Olowu Aduku, beautifully dressed in the Egyptian regalia and a parade by the king and queen of each cultural group, then a speech presentation on the history of the different countries in English language, then a short speech in the local dialect of the different tribes.
In a symbolic depiction of each traditional heritage, pupils, students and staff of SHOMS College were dressed in cultural attires of these foreign countries. The history of each country was depicted in a playlet, the National Anthem of each country were also rendered.
The programme proceeded with the presentation of the divers’ local dishes waiting to arouse the appetite of the tasting judges where the students had to explain the ingredients used in the preparation of the fascinating delicacies.
Different cultural song and dance were displayed and from the faces and attitude of the pupils/students and parents, it was obvious they were having a nice time.
The grand finale of the show was crowned with the cultural dance. It was a display of diversity and uniformity from the pupils/students.
At the end of all the astonishing performances, South-African group came out tops with 28points, followed by Ghana group with 25 points (2nd position), Indian group with 20points (3rd position) , Britain earned 17 points (4th position) and Spain 16 points (5th position).
Congratulation to the South-Africa group and also to all the participants for their efforts.
The event was really colourful and entertaining.
